Research Projects

The Humanistic Buddhism Centre (HBC) continues to be a pioneer in research and development on Humanistic Buddhism in Australia with the help of partnerships and volunteers from around the world.

Applied Research Project

The Journal Translation Project

Studies on Humanistic Buddhism is a journal with articles translated from Chinese by a worldwide team of volunteer translators, editors, and proofreaderes. We also publish original English articles, commentaries, and student papers. The aim of the journal is to provide access to articles on Humanistic Buddhism in english for scholars. The journal is a result of a unique translation process that employs an online work workflow with a cloud-based glossary. Hard copies of the journal are published by Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism and the Nan Tien Institute of Higher Learning.

Humanistic Buddhism Special Interest Group

HB SIG are a group of researchers and students from different parts of the world who share an academic interest in Humanistic Buddhism. They meet three times a year to share their ongoing research work, methodologies and tools, and other relevant topics. Meetings are online and informal, with short presentations followed by discussions. HB SIG is a supportive network and a safe platform for people to connect, discuss their research, and collaborate on papers and projects related to Humanistic Buddhism.

Applied Research Projects

Buddhism in the Sea of Islands Project

The objective of this project is to examine Buddhism in Pacific contexts and explore the transnational flow and counterflow of Buddhism and interactions between immigrants and the indigenous people, both in historical and contemporary societies in the region.

We would like to acknowledge the Hsing Yun Education Foundation’s generous sponsorship of research projects conducted by the Humanistic Buddhism Centre.
