Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Vision
Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of the Nan Tien Institute (NTI) and the Fo Guang Shan University Consortium, envisioned NTI to be a beacon of higher education grounded in Buddhist wisdom and values. He remained steadfast in his belief that humanities-based education is essential for societal progress. He emphasised the importance of unity, dedication, and a shared vision among the staff to build a brighter future for our society and students.
Purpose of Establishing NTI
At NTI, we are committed to being a vibrant, international, educational graduate school, dedicated to the value of learning, and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge, skills, and wisdom. We value the diversity and different cultural backgrounds of our students. We use flexible learning methods to meet the needs of all students.
Inclusive: NTI is an institute of higher education based on Buddhist values and wisdom. We are a secular institution and our students come from all faiths.
Cultural and Educational Integration: We continue to tradition of academics, combining the roots of Buddhist educational culture with modern university pedagogical methods and approaches to knowledge generation.
Promoting Humanities: We focus on the humanities and social sciences, believing them to be fundamental to society and important in the long run.
