Nan Tien Institute is a private, not for profit, government accredited Higher Education provider founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, launched in 2011 within the precinct of the Nan Tien Temple, in Wollongong, Australia.
We offer postgraduate programs in Applied Buddhist Studies, Health and Social Wellbeing, Humanistic Buddhism and Mental Health as well as customized Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs and special interest subjects across the areas of meditation, mindfulness, and health.

Mission and Values
Our mission is to educate students in a context informed by Buddhist wisdom and values through the academic study of arts, education, human welfare’s religion, and other disciplines to facilitate cultural understanding and appreciation of a multicultural and diverse society.
Primary Position Purpose
The Dean of Studies is responsible for academic and administrative leadership, and the oversight of academic programs. You will have strengths in people management, academic policy, governance and operations, and solid financial skills.
Leadership – Actively contribute academic leadership advice aligned with the mission and values of Nan Tien Institute.
Academic Curriculum Development and Evaluation – Ability to lead program and subject development at Undergraduate and Graduate level in accordance with the AQF. Ability to utilise a range of evaluation approaches to assess the success of programs and teaching
Management of Staff – Head of Program and Academic staff.
Strategic and operational planning and execution – Develop a clear strategic direction for Academic Programs for the Institute. Ensure the strategic plan is clearly articulated across the institute. Drive the implementation of the strategic plan and provide regular reporting to the board on the implementation of the Strategic plan.
Academic Quality Assurance – Develop and monitor quality assurance procedures for Academic programs within the Institute. Regularly monitor and review for compliance in line with regulatory bodies. Provide annual audit documentation as required by (TEQSA & ESOS).
Student Experience focus – Lead the development of quality learning experiences informed by contemplative pedagogy.
- Teaching – Foster a high-quality student experience, aligned with the values of the Nantien Institute
Chairing key academic committees including academic board.
Provision of academic and administrative leadership and oversight of the academic programs and staff
Contributing to the strategic planning of the Institute
Chairing the Education Committee
Advising the President on academic workforce plans and development
Establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with staff, students and alumni
Contributing to the Nan Tien teaching program
Managing the relationship with TEQSA on academic matters and assisting the President in working with other external regulatory bodies
Ensuring the academic finances are managed responsibly and strategically

- A PhD in a discipline related to Nan Tien Institute teaching areas
- Proven ability in academic leadership and management
- Demonstrated successful experience leading academic and/or professional accreditation
- Demonstrated successful teaching at graduate level – face to face and online.
- Demonstrated success in designing programs and subjects at undergraduate and post graduate level and experience in educational evaluation.
- Demonstrated successful academic leadership and management.
- Successful experience in budget management
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated track record of scholarship in at least one area relevant to the teaching of NTI.
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of the Nan Tien Institute
