Library Services and Support

Nan Tien Institute Library serves the research and study needs of students currently studying at NTI, both in person and online, as well as the research and teaching needs of staff.

Student Enquiries

Library staff are available to assist with research enquiries, referencing and understanding assessments in person, by phone, via email or over Zoom.

To book an individual Zoom support session, please email the library with your support needs and 2 available times between 9am-5pm, Mon-Thurs. The Library will respond to confirm a time and provide a link for the session. Please note: staff may need to arrange session times based on availability.

Campus Facilities

Student seating, tables and study carrels are available in the library space. Power outlets are positioned all around the library, and students may see staff for access to the wi-fi network. Community members and visitors to NTI are also welcome to enjoy the library space and explore the collection.

An additional quiet study area and meditation room is available above the Library on Level 1 of the Blue Pod, which students may use both during and outside of library hours. The quiet study space is not accessible from within the library, so items will need to be borrowed before students take them upstairs. The Level 1 study space is not available to community members of visitors to NTI.

Postal Loans and Scans
The Library aims to make its resources as accessible as possible. Postal loans from the physical collection are available to all students within Australia, regardless of whether your subject is being delivered online or on campus.

Please note: The Library will pay for postage to send items, and students are responsible for return postage. Students are also able to return books in person to avoid return postage.

To request a postal loan, identify the item you would like to borrow from the Library Catalogue and email the library at library@nantien.edu.au with your request and postal address. The Library will aim to post your loan within two business days (delivery time may be affected by Australia Post delays).

Request a Scan

Students may also request scans of library material via email. If you think that you only need a particular chapter from a book, you may email the library to request a scan rather than borrow the entire book. This service is also available to students located outside Australia, who are not eligible for postal loans.

Under copyright regulation, students may request a scan of either 1 chapter OR 10% of the total page count of a book, whichever is larger (for more information visit Copyright for Students, NTI login required). Library staff will advise you of how many pages can be scanned for each request.

Academic Support

NTI’s Academic Support Officers are available to assist students seeking to improve their academic skills and develop effective study habits. Assistance is available in the following areas:

  • Assessment requirements and structure
  • Argument development
  • Academic language
  • NTI Harvard referencing
  • Time management and planning
  • Academic integrity and Plagiarism
  • Microsoft Word and PowerPoint functionality
  • Feedback from Lecturers

Academic Support officers do not read through drafts, so please send an outline of you require help with structure. An outline is a list of points, main points and sub-points, grouped together in an order which illustrates the approach and flow of the argument that you intend to make.

Students can contact Academic Support via email: academicsupport@nantien.edu.au

Workshops

Academic Support runs workshops to target specific academic skills throughout the year. Students will receive updates about upcoming workshops through their NTI email and the NTiLearn announcement forum.

Please note: Registration is essential for all Academic Support workshops and an NTI login is required to access the registration form.
